Angela Butler is an Assistant Vice President in the Merrill Lynch Community Development Company, where she focuses on the execution of deal underwriting and assists in managing a portfolio of more than $400 million in loans and equity investments.
Prior to joining Merrill Lynch in 2006, Angela was Director of Real Estate Development for the Faith Center for Community Development. In this role, she was responsible for underwriting acquisition and pre-development loans for faith based non profits. Angela also provided project related technical assistance to these faith based organizations including feasibility analyses, packaging of bank and government applications, assembling development teams, and creating development and operating budgets as well as project management.
Previously, Angela held the position of District Sales Manager for Nortel Networks, one of the country’s largest telecommunications companies for eleven years. In this role, she was responsible for generating more than $40 million in revenues annually and managing a sales channel. While at Nortel, Angela realized a passion for community development and performed volunteer internships with community based developers and non profits such as Habitat for Humanity.
Angela is very active in the community and has spent thousands of volunteer hours over the past fifteen years organizing service projects and fundraisers and is a member of the oldest African American sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She currently serves as Fundraising Chairperson and Public Relations Chairperson in Alpha Kappa Alpha and has organized fundraising events for the sorority’s scholarship program which awards four scholarships to deserving high school students in New York City annually. Angela has served as Co-Chair for the Columbia Business School Black Business Students Conference, Co-Chair for the Abyssinian Baptist Church Women’s Day, and President of the Joshua Ministry at Abyssinian.
Angela earned an MBA in Real Estate Finance from Columbia Business School in 2006 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science in 1992.
